   The town of Batak in the western Rhodopes, 26 kilometres away from the town of Pazardzhik, at 1036 metres of altitude. Batak dam is 17 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide. Several more dams are located nearby, the biggest of which are:
    Shiroka Polyana, Vassil Kolarov and Dospat. In winter, there are great snowfalls in the mountain – up to 100 m.
Two amateur ski-tracks have been built there and a third new one is about to be constructed, which will have ski lift. The relief is high mountainous, and the average altitude is 1150 metres. In the south-western part of the Batak mountain, rises the summit of Syutkya. To the south of Batak, apart from Batashki Snezhnik, rise also Ostri Vrah and the summit of Semerelan. On the territory of Batak municipality there are two reserves – Dupkata, which is protected by UNESCO, and Beglika. There are 10 protected areas, the largest of which is Batashki Snezhnik. Here is also the Foten waterfall, which is a true landmark of nature.
   The conditions in the region are perfect for the development of hunting, fishing, rural, high-mountain and hobby tourism, as well as for winter and water sports. The non-violated environment, various landscape, reserves, landmarks, water resources, varied flora and fauna – all these contribute to the creation of the above conditions.
   Another landmarks are the remains of Thracian, Roman, Byzantine and Slavonic fortresses, mounds, bridges and other interesting archaeological sites. Here can be seen also the fortress of Tsepina. In the vicinity of Batak there are 9 active chapels. The church in the town of Batak is one of the 100 sites of Bulgaria.
   The dam offers perfect conditions for free fishing – there are the following type of fish: carp, silver carp, perchpike, crucian carp, and bleak. The dam is not a reservoir zone and water sports can be freely practiced, such as: windsurfing, rowing, water skiing, etc.
   In the area of Batak dam, there are many caves, the most famous of which are: Snezhanka, Lepenitsa, Yagodinska, Dyavolskoto Garlo, Haramiiska cave, etc.
